BLACK MOON PUBLIC HOUSE

Born from D.I.Y. punk rock grit and vintage elegance, Black Moon Public House is more than a bar—it's a vibe. Step inside for craft cocktails, new and classic beers and wine, freshly prepared fare, complete with welcoming and unfiltered charm on the coast of Maine.

Like many adventures, the story of Black Moon started with two strangers meeting on a plane talking about opening a dive bar.

Fast forward 6 years. No longer strangers, two of the hardest working people on the planet created an elegant bar, inspired by their love of the welcoming, unpredictable and perilous dive bar.

The vintage 1890's bar was brought to Downtown Ellsworth from the American Legion Club in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, in about 40 pieces. The 40 pieces were cleaned, glued, nailed and repaired into 20 puzzle pieces, and lovingly restored ready for assembly. 

The ceiling, walls and floor were repaired and painted to receive the bar. With most of the bar renovated, missing pieces were recreated and handcrafted to match the Eastlake style of the formidable fixture. The historic bar is the centerpiece of Black Moon Public House. 

Black Moon Public House, located in the Tracy Building that was built in 1933 after most of downtown was burned to the ground, was home to the iconic J.J. Newberry Department Store and was also a favorite antique market at the turn of the century. Only now has the historic building reclaimed its glory and glamour, and we welcome you to visit our cocktail bar for lunch, dinner, live music and a variety of private and public events.

Relax and enjoy our signature cocktails, reimagined classics, booze-free beverages and an assortment of brews, including the legendary Lubec Brewing Co. Black Moon Ale, inspired by Scotch-style red ale.  Yeah, it's a cool place to hangout!
